When To See A Doctor

I want to emphasize the importance of talking to a doctor if you are experiencing a lot of stress. A doctor can help you determine if the stress is manageable with the stress relief techniques you will find on this website, or if you need additional medication. Also it is always important to check with your doctor before you make any lifestyle changes. The information on this website is not medical advice, and some lifestyle changes may negatively impact your health. More importantly if your stress is so severe that you are not able to cope or feel very depressed or even suicidal, then it is extremely important that you talk to a doctor as soon as possible. There is a difference between stress, anxiety, and depression, and sometimes it is a very fine line that we cannot determine on our own.

When I started on my stress relief plan, the first thing I did was go to the doctor and have a physical exam, blood work done for cholesterol and the other things doctors look for as indicators of potential problems, and I discussed my goals regarding my health (he already knew about my stress so I did not need to discuss that, but you will need to.) The plan I put myself on (with my doctors approval) began with exercise and eating more fruits and vegetables, I also went to a fitness center and got an evaluation of my physical fitness level, and I went to a counselor to help me work out any issues I had dealing with my husband’s death and my children. I took a leave of absence from work so I was able to focus on the needs of my children and myself, and I slept a lot. You may not be able to take a leave of absence, but a vacation may be a good way to start and prepare a stress relief program for yourself.
