Stress Evaluation: The First Step of a Successful Stress Relief Program

A thorough stress evaluation is important to identify the areas for improvement in your life. It allows you to look at your personality and the cause of stress in your life in order to set some priorities and goals for your self. Since stress can come from a variety of sources, you can approach this a few ways:

1) Stress Journal or Daily Record

2) Source of Stress List

3) Soical Readjustment Rating Scale

Once you have identified your sources of stress, for each stressor, decide what you can do about it. You can:

1) Remove it, 2) Manage it, or 3) Change your thinking

Now you have completed your stress evaluation and thought about what you need to do about each stressor. If your list seems too large, narrow it down by asking yourself if the stressors need to be addressed individually or if several can be worked on together. In general, if you cannot remove the stressor, then it will be necessary for you to implement lifestyle changes in order to keep your stress manageable and prevent the long-term damage that stress can cause to your body and mind.
